Rei tries to convince Mamiya to find happiness. He killed her family on her 20th birthday, and then abducted her. As Kenshiro pursues Juda, he is attacked by a group of young boys who try to steal weapons to rescue the loved ones that Juda has abducted.
Rei has little time left, so Toki tries to extend his life, but it only causes him more pain. Rei learns Mamiya has seen the star of death as well.
Rei offers his remaining life to Mamiya and prepares to fight Juda. Juda is eager to defeat someone stronger than himself, and the battle begins.
Rei awaits death alone, refusing to allow others to watch him die. Through a certain miracle Mamiya no longer sees the star of death.
Kenshiro fights against a warlord known as the Holy Emperor, giving his brother Raoh time to heal. But then Toki decides to fight Raoh himself.
He arrives at a town controlled by rival martial artist Thouzer, and finds a new enemy. In fighting the blind Shu, Kenshiro realizes there is no intent to kill.
Shu was simply trying to discover if Kenshiro could defeat Thouzer. As Kenshiro races to help, an assassin awaits him deep in the lake. Thouzer imprisons the defeated Kenshiro as a human sacrifice.
Shu is proud to hear that his son Shiva gave his life to protect Kenshiro. He gives Kenshiro a sleeping potion and heads to face Thouzer himself.
Toki and Raoh appear as Kenshiro arrives at the mausoleum. Thouzer lands the final blow on the half-dead Shu, but something strange happens. Thouzer and Kenshiro attack with their most deadly arts, and the vicious battle between the Northern and Southern Star styles begins.
Luckily, a powerful ally emerges to help. To gauge his wounds, Raoh chooses to fight Koryu. Just as Koryu unleashes a fatal blow, Toki realizes that Raoh is close to a full recovery.
As Toki and Raoh fight, the past and present begin to merge. Raoh lands two deadly blows on Toki and a strange phenomenon announces the end.
The fateful battle between Toki and Raoh heats up as Toki sees a chance for victory and takes it -- only to find that his blows have no effect!
Kenshiro meets the solitary Ryuga in a village once controlled by the King of Fists, and sees him unleash a fearsome power on the conquering bandits.
Ryuga believes fear is the key to peace, and pledges allegiance to Raoh. He then tells Raoh of his decision to fight Kenshiro.
Kenshiro visits the town run by Sabato the glutton and quickly defeats him. During his journey, Kenshirou makes use of his deadly fighting form, Hokuto Shinken, to defend the helpless from bloodthirsty ravagers.
It isn't long before his exploits begin to attract the attention of greater enemies, like warlords and rival martial artists, and Keshirou finds himself involved with more than he originally bargained for.
Faced with ever-increasing odds, the successor of Hokuto Shinken is forced to put his skills to the test in an effort to take back what he cares for most.
And as these new challenges present themselves and the battle against injustice intensifies, namely his conflict with Shin and the rest of the Nanto Seiken school of martial arts, Kenshirou is gradually transformed into the savior of an irradiated and violent world.
